Container freight rates rise for a second consecutive week
Drewry’s World Container Index, an international benchmark for spot rates, rose 2% as of October 22 to US$4,585 per 40ft container, its highest level in 15 weeks. The largest increases were on Asia–Europe routes (Shanghai–Genoa, +5%) and the Transpacific, with capacity tightened by blank sailings.
The index does not track the Asia–Argentina route, but it shows the market trend: with tight capacity, carriers tend to pass on increases and surcharges. If you are about to ship from Asia, ask for a quote with a clear validity period and check which surcharges it includes before confirming your purchase.
