Start with the product.
Before negotiating prices, understand the goods’ requirements in Argentina. Tariff classification determines taxes and possible agency checks, and some categories require certification or authorization before entry.
With that clear, the import follows these steps:
Assess the product
The description, composition, use and technical sheet help identify the tariff classification, estimated taxes and whether other agencies must intervene. If skipped: an incorrect classification can result in fines or unexpected taxes.
Choose the shipment method
Courier may suit samples and small batches, with a limit of USD 3,000 FOB per shipment. Larger volumes or goods with special requirements use the general regime with customs clearance. If skipped: splitting a purchase to use courier may be challenged by customs. Read the courier regime guide →
Register as an importer
To import under the general regime, you must register with ARCA. Requirements depend on your situation; resolve them before paying the supplier. We support you through the process.
Check the supplier and pro forma invoice
Ask for a pro forma invoice showing description, quantities, price, sale terms (Incoterm), timing and packaging details. If possible, request samples before placing the full order. If skipped: an incomplete pro forma invoice creates discrepancies with the final invoice and complicates clearance.
Calculate the total cost
Goods, freight, insurance, taxes, destination charges, delivery and fees. Compare quotes with the same scope. If skipped: unquoted destination charges appear once the cargo has already arrived. Read the cost guide →
Coordinate transport
Ocean or air freight according to volume, value and urgency. If the goods do not fill a container, they can be consolidated with other cargo. If skipped: choosing the wrong shipment method may increase freight costs or delay delivery.
Customs clearance and delivery
The operation’s documents are used to register the customs declaration, pay taxes and complete the checks assigned by customs. The cargo is then collected and delivered to the agreed destination. If skipped: document errors hold the cargo in storage, with daily storage costs.
This guide provides general information as of October 2026. Each product may have its own requirements: confirm them before paying the supplier.
